If people knew how hard I had to work to gain my mastery, it would not seem so wonderful at all.

Staff training: watering your soft skills
Shanna provides training and clinical supervision geared towards mental health providers.

Let’s talk about Sex[ual health] – Often times clinicians and clients are limited in their conversations about sex. Skillful and knowledgeable clinicians can provide a safe and non-judgemental space for clients to explore challenges and desires in sexuality and sex. Our ability to talk with our clients openly and honestly about sexual health matters is of utmost importance, especially since many individuals do not have access to realiable and honest conversations about sex. To do so, clinicians should reassess attitudes and values towards sexual health matters.  In this training, participants will explore issues that may be hard to discuss, will reassess attitudes that may need change, and will gain insight, tools, and resources that will empower their ability to discuss these hard topics and bring sexual health into the treatment setting.

Sexual Health in Recovery Many people who struggle with addiction find no safe place to talk about sex and sexuality. Specific barriers add to the challenge, such as: Silence, Silliness, Shame, Shyness, Suppression, and Superstition. This training will review topics of addiction and attachment/differentiation, core concepts of sexual health and recovery, methods of assessment, the role of gratification, pathways towards wellness (including harm reduction), use of Motivational Interviewing in the clinical setting, and relapse risk prevention planning that incorperate sexual health into recovery goals.
